Outdoor Nation grant rewards 18- to 28-year-olds who connect youth with the outdoors

Do you have a great idea for a project that will help youth better understand and appreciate the outdoors?

Would you like $2,500 to help make your idea a reality?

Are you between the ages of 18 and 28?

If you answered “yes” to all three questions, listen up.

Outdoor Nation, an official BSA partner since 2010, seeks “individuals between the ages of 18 and 28 who are interested in connecting other young people with America’s natural and cultural heritage through outdoor experiences.”

Working to help young people enjoy and appreciate nature? That seems like a natural fit for a Scouter, if you ask me.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

Deadline: Proposals must be in by Oct. 14, 2011.

Awards: Individuals can receive up to $2,500. A total of $50,000 will be awarded to 20 different projects.

Notification of winners will begin Nov. 14, 2011.

Project Requirements:

  1. Projects must increase participation by youth and young adults in outdoor recreation activities.
  2. Projects must involve an element of the National Park Service.
  3. Projects should make the outdoors relevant to today’s young people: make it inviting, exciting, and fun.
  4. Projects should work towards giving young people access to outdoor places.
  5. Projects should include a way to capture the essence of grant through pictures, video, or other multimedia.
  6. Projects must begin in fall 2011 and must be completed by June 15, 2012.
